Columbia Glacier

Search Visit Alaska

Columbia Glacier covers about 440 square miles and is the largest tidewater glacier in Prince William Sound, and the second largest in the state. The glacier is 40 miles long and more than three miles wide at its face.

Since 1982, Columbia Glacier has been in rapid retreat, at a rate of about a half-mile per year. This retreat has filled Columbia Bay with icebergs.
