Managed by the state of Alaska, the 1,800 acre refuge is part of a pioneer dairy farm which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Creamer's Field is an important habitat for many species of wildlife, especially waterfowl and other migratory birds. Numerous nature trails, a visitor center, and the Alaska Bird Observatory, are a few of the activities visitors can choose from.
