Grayling is in Interior Alaska on the west bank of the Yukon River. The population of Grayling is comprised of Holikachuk and Ingalik Indians. Grayling's economy is heavily dependent on subsistence activities such as gardening, gathering, trapping, hunting, and fishing.

No roads connect Grayling with other communities. Some years, Grayling is a checkpoint on the annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
