This 4.1 million acre park and preserve is famous for its volcanoes, brown bear, wild rivers, active glaciers, and rugged wilderness. It is the site of a tremendous volcanic explosion in 1912 that led to a caldera filling with water. The explosion created so much steam that it became known as the Valley of 10,000 Smokes.

The park can be reached only by boat or plane and is open year round.
