King Salmon is located in Bristol Bay Borough. It is a settlement at the western boundary of Katmai National Park and Preserve on the Alaska Peninsula, ten miles from Lake Camp.

Commercial airlines serve King Salmon, which is 35 miles from Brooks Camp. Float planes make scheduled flights between King Salmon and Brooks Camp.

An air navigation silo was built in the 1930s, and an Air Force Base was built here at the beginning of WWII. The base was closed in 1993. The community has grown as a government, transportaion, and service center for the commercial salmon and recreational visitor industries.
