This cave was named in honor of Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto who visited the area is 1540. It was one of the first caves to be officially recorded, being done so in 1796. Along with the caverns, this park offers DeSoto's Lost Trail Maze which is a three-quarter acre dizzying dead-end after dead-end trail and Water Balloon Battle -- Two battle stations. Two opposing armies. Both armed to the teeth -only with water balloons. Visitors can also enjoy panning for gemstones. They provide the pans, the stream and the "hidden" gemstones. Guests provide the ingenuity and the patience for their reward; sapphires, onyx, rubies.
