Southern Community College is a two year post-secondary technical college. The college is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE).
The college was founded in 1969, by Rev. Dr. Lawrence F. Haygood, Sr., who was elected President by the Board of Trustees. Haygood graduated from Stillman College of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was the first Black to attend Union Theological Seminary located in Richmond, Virginia where he graduated with distinction in 1960.
Formal classes started in June of 1970, with a student population of fifty. The first formal graduation was held during the summer of 1972.
Currently,the College offers courses in Allied Health Occupations, Automated Office Technology, Business Administration Technology, Computer Operations and Computer Technology.
Located in Tuskegee in Macon County, total enrollment for SCC is approximately 140.
