Shelby Baptist Medical Center

Baptist Shelby in Alabaster has been an affiliate of Baptist Health System since 1989. The once small county hospital became a Baptist Medical Center in 1996 after a county-wide referendum, in which voters chose to affiliate with BHS by a margin of 2 to 1. Since the vote, BHS has added or is in the process of adding a 10-bed dialysis unit, six Baptist Health Center physician practices, a transportation service to assist patients to and from physician offices, and an outpatient rehab unit at the Shelby County YMCA. Baptist Shelby has 210 licensed beds and approximately 150 physicians on active staff.
