Baptist Lawrence was originally founded in 1953 as Lawrence County Hospital and opened that Spring with 30 patient beds. Since then, the hospital has undergone several major renovations and expansions, the most recent being a $2.1 million renovation in 1992. In 1995, Lawrence County Hospital joined Baptist Health System, Alabama's largest and most comprehensive health system, to become Baptist Lawrence. Baptist Lawrence now has 98 licensed beds and 12 physicians on active staff.
