Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City joined the Baptist network in 1983. A year later, construction began on a new 118-bed facility on a 55-acre site, and in 1986, BMH-Forrest City opened its doors to the people of St. Francis County and surrounding areas. Just off Interstate 40 between Memphis and Little Rock, its Emergency Department is often used by travelers who become ill or injured.
The hospital's newly opened, 18-bed geriatric behavioral unit fills a medical gap in eastern Arkansas. The large number of nursing homes in this area, plus a steady increase in the percentage of the elderly population, has created a growing need to provide care for elderly patients with psychiatric problems.
