Mount Ida is located in Montgomery County (of which it is the county seat), north of Caddo Gap, between Mena and Hot Springs in the Ouachita National Forest. Also situated at the west end of Lake Ouachita, near the Quachita River.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 995, an increase of 71 since 1990.

A popular attraction is the Mount Ida area is the Lake Ouachita State Park.
