Overflow NWR is a vital bottomland hardwood area in eastern Arkansas. Overflow is managed primarily for wintering and resident waterfowl, shore and wading birds and other neotropical migrants, endangered species and indigenous wildlife. Spectacular concentrations of waterfowl, often more than 100,000 birds, winter on the area. Overflow provides a variety of public use opportunities including hunting, trapping, wildlife observation, photography, environmental education and other outreach efforts. Primary management activities include moist soils/croplands management, water management through a series of impoundments, a 4,000-acre greentree reservoir and a sound forest management program to enhance benefits to wildlife.
