McNary is located in Apache County between Pinetop-Lakeside and Eagar on Highway 260 near Hon Dah.

McNary covers an aproximate area of 11.856 sq. kilometers. The distance to the Arizona state capital, Phoenix is 138 miles(as the crow flies). McNary's elevation is 7,316 feet above sea level. McNary is located in the northeastern portion of the Apache Indian Reservation and the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. Numerous camp grounds can be found in the area as well as a variety of recreational activities. Nearby in the national forest is the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway, State Route 191. The 127-mile long route is 5,000 feet high and runs between Springerville and Clifton. The Apache Sitgreaves National Forest also offers opportunities for trout fishing, camping, boating, picnicking and off-road driving.
