Summerhaven is located in Pima County within the Coronado National Forest on the Catalina Highway northeast of Tucson.
The village of Summerhaven is situated in the cool forests of the beautiful Santa Catalina Mountains at approximately 8,000 feet, 30 miles northeast of Tucson, Arizona. Mt. Lemmon, at 9,157 feet, is the highest peak in the range.
Summerhaven is surrounded by the Coronado National Forest and has a beautiful scenic highway (Catalina/Mt. Lemmon Highway) leading to the "Island in the Sky." It takes approximately 45-60 minutes to drive through the various topographical and ecological zones to the top.
There are three restaurants and various gift shops in the village itself. Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley is the southernmost ski area in the nation.
Temperatures on the mountain are generally 20-30 lower than Tucson. Snowfall averages 10-12 feet during the winter. Activities include hiking, bird watching, and fishing.
