Wickenburg is located in Maricopa County northwest of Phoenix along US Highway 60 near Lake Pleasant and the Agua Fria River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,366, an increase of 851 since 1990.

Wickenburg is well known for its guest ("dude") ranches and tourism support businesses. It is home to two nationally known behavioral health treatment facilities and several manufacturing plants. Annual events include Gold Rush Days, the Blue Grass Festival, the Desert Caballeros Ride and Fiesta Septiembre.

Wickenburg is part of the Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona metro area.
