Search Nanaimo British Columbia

Vancouver Island's coal mining industry really began with the discovery of coal on Newcastle Island in 1852. The first sod was turned at the Morden Mine in 1912 and in its first year of operation, 76,000 metric tons of coal was removed. Little remains now but the old coal tripple.

This is just one of hundreds of British Columbia Provincial Parks.
