The Castle of Chimay has been burnt and rebuilt eight times. The most recent fire took place in 1935, sparing only a fifteenth century tower and a rococo theater favored by the most famous of the castles past occupants, Mlle. Tallien. Tallien was an important figure in the French Revolution, a consort of Robespierre who ultimately caused his fall in 1794. The Castle has been rebuilt since the fire, and continues its centuries old tradition of hosting art, theater, and musical performances on a regular basis.
