Hoogstraten lies at the far north of Belgium near the Dutch border. on the E19 roadway linking Antwerp with the Dutch city of Amsterdam. Hoogstraten's Church of St. Catherine is a towering gothic edifice 105 meters in height; it was originally constructed in the 16th century but had to be rebuilt after being laid to waste by WWII bombardment. Another item of architectural significance is the Benguinage of Hoogstraten. Locally grown strawberries are a culinary favorite.
