La-Roche-en-Ardenne, population 4,000, is one of the primary tourist towns of the Ardennes region. It is nestled in a crook of the Ourthe River, surrounded by hills. Spooky castle ruins overlook the town, the remains of a medieval fortress pulled down in the 18th century. The rest of La-Roche was completely wrecked during the advance of the Germans in the 1944 Battle of the Bulge; it has since been rebuilt.

Beausaint, Halleux, Hives, Ortho, and Samree are boroughs within the municipal district of La-Roche-en-Ardenne.
