The temporal scope of the Royal Museum of the Army and Military History exceeds the age of the Belgian nation (established in 1831), to encompass a full millenia of weaponry, armor, military dress, strategy, traditions, pomp, vehicles, and so on. In addition to the artifacts, the past is recalled through paintings, sculptures, decorations, and other artwork and mementos. Belgian and European political history is a strong secondary priority. Some of the Museum's prominent exhibits include the aviation department, the tanks department, and the orders and medals of King Albert I.
The Museum takes up one wing of the Palace of the Fiftieth Anniversary, in the Park of the Fiftieth Anniversary. Other wings are occupied by Autoworld and the diverse collections of the Museum of the Fiftieth Anniversary.
