The ULB Museum of Medicine presents the history of medical practice and ideas from antiquity to the present day. The emancipation of medicine over centuries from magic to science is chronicled. One room includes hundreds of medical implements and technologies from many eras. Another collects engravings and advertisements from the 18th century onward, to demonstrate the changing perceptions with which medicine was viewed. A highlight of the museum is the 249 piece Spitzer anatomical wax figure collection, whose hyper-real grotesquerie reflects the increasing role of rationalism in medicine at the beginning of the 19th century.
