Spa lives up to its name -- it is a popular resort town, whose effervescent spring waters are legendary for their power to refresh and rejuvenate. It is located on hilly territory in the Fagnes de Malchamps region of the Ardennes forest, thirty kilometers southeast of Liege. There is ample woodsy territory for exploration and leisure just outside the town limits. Most of the buildings of architectural interest in Spa are, unsurprisingly, decorative baths and fountains. Spa also is also known for its specialty souvenier knicknack, the "jolite" -- a miniature painted wooden box.
