The Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce is the leading organization dedicated to the success of business. Charlie Brown lived in Santa Rosa. Luther Burbank, one of the most famous people of the 19th Century, called his home Santa Rosa 'the chosen spot of all the earth.' Charles M. Schulz, creator more of the Peanuts cartoon strip, lived and worked in Santa Rosa. There are 191 wineries in Sonoma County and Santa Rosa is home to 7 of these wineries. A huge part of what people love about the Santa Rosa area is the abundance of outdoor activities. The area has wonderful state and local parks, as well as jogging and biking trails, and the beautiful Pacific Ocean is just a short drive away. California Exposition & State Fair Sacramento CA June12-28 The Cal Expo is the site of the California State Fair. All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet. Horseracing was part of that first fair and has continued to be a part of the fair ever since.
