With over 600,000 acres, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in the continuous United States. 500 miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and miles of hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the Colorado Desert. The park features washes, wildflowers, palm groves, cacti, and sweeping vistas. Wildlife includes roadrunners, golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer and the big horn sheep for which the valley shares its name as well as iguanas, chuckwallas and the red diamond rattlesnake. Listening devices are available for the hearing impaired in the visitor center.
The park is located east of San Diego and north of Interstate 8. One entrance is close to Julian.
