San Pablo is located in Contra Costa County north of Oakland just off Interstate 80 near Richmond. San Pablo, California is located in the East Bay north of Berkeley in western Contra Costa County. San Pablo is nestled between the cities of Pinole and Richmond and the neighboring cities of El Cerrito and Hercules.
The San Pablo community dates back to the early 1800s when the Castro Family received almost 20,000 acres in a Spanish land grant. San Pablo has two museums; the Alvarado Adobe, a replica of the home of Governor Alvarado, and the Blume House, a large old farm house built in 1905 and moved to its present location in 1979 when a shopping center was to be built at the original location. The bunk house was also moved and is a part of the museum.
San Pablo is both a residential and business community occupying an area of approximately three square miles.
