The Summit Ranger District in the Stanislaus National Forest represents one of the best opportunities in Tuolumne County to experience the "great unfenced." Hiking, fishing, camping, horseback riding, skiing, snowmobiling, picnicking, swimming, snowshoeing and gold panning are some of the activities which will make any stay here wonderful.
This area between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park is a Northern California favorite playground. While some of the higher elevations roads are closed in the winter, there are still many winter fun opportunities.
