At an elevation of 8600 feet in the high Sierra Nevada, Tuolumne Meadows is an ideal camping spot and an excellent starting point for fishing, hiking, and mountain-climbing trips. Surrounded by lofty peaks, it is accessible by car from about late May through October, depending on snow conditions.
Foot and horseback trips can start from Tuolumne Meadows and reach Waterwheel Falls, Mount Lyell, Lyell Glacier, Lembert Dome, Glen Aulin, Muir Gorge, Soda Springs, Tenaya Lake and other points. A gas station, post office, and some tourist services are available from June through Labor Day, weather permitting.
