Gold Country Region

The legend of California began here in Gold Country with the discovery of gold and the Gold Rush of 1849. The legacy of those miners is still evident today in many California Cities and Towns.

Rivers, canyons, lakes, and reservoirs offer outstanding recreation opportunities. The Gold Country Region features Tahoe National Forest, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, one state park, two state recreation areas, and ten state historic parks.

Gold Country generally experiences warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. This area is located along the west slope of the Sierra Nevadas in central and northern California. The main highways accessing this region are Interstate 80 and US 50 running east/west, and California 49 running north/south.

Newly done.
