San Francisco Bay Area

This region encompasses a variety of landscapes: cool, foggy beaches, to beautiful city skylines, to redwood and oak forests, this region offers many activities to the outdoor lover or the city slicker. The San Francisco Bay Area features Point Reyes National Seashore, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, 13 state parks, including Angel Island State Park and one state reserve, 13 state beaches, three state recreation parks, and three state historic parks.

With climate that ranges from foggy on the Pacific Coast to hot and sunny only a few miles inland, the Bay Area presents a varied pallet of "Micro Climates". North across the Golden Gate Bridge is Marin County, where many are attracted to Sausalito's quirkiness. The San Francisco Peninsula, on which San Francisco perches, includes Silicon Valley and Stanford University. Accross the San Francisco Bay, Oakland and Berkeley are important centers of the East Bay Area and Santa Cruz is 60 miles south along the coast on Highway 1.
