The original Lodge (built in 1893 from a mail order kit) was restored in 1984, adding 8 new units and several other buildings. Today, The Pines welcomes its guests to a unique ranch, set at 8,700 feet in the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Wilderness Area. Horseback riding is the centerpiece of a stay at The Pines; the registered horses and a professionally-run equestrian program provide enjoyment for all riding levels. Trail rides vary from just over an hour to an overnight pack trip through some of Colorado's most breathtaking scenery. Other activities include fishing, hiking, river rafting, square dancing, and an end-of-the-week guest rodeo. The Historic Pines Ranch is located 1.5 hours from Pueblo, 2 hours from Colorado Springs, and 3 hours from Denver. Airport transportation is available from Pueblo and the Springs. The Pines is near many of the top attractions in the state, including The Royal Gorge, Great Sand Dunes.
