Home to Black Canyon of the Gunnison Ntl Park, Montrose is located in the Uncompahgre Valley of southwestern Colorado. Directly east lie the majestic Colorado Rockies, and the spires of the San Juan mountains are just 25 miles south.

Montrose is intersected by Highways 50 and 550, which makes it a center for transportation. Minimal snow accumulation in the area make it a year-round playground for residents as well as visitors. Maps of the historical downtown district are available at the chamber of commerce, city hall and visitor center.
