Salida is a perfect base camp for exploring Colorado's outdoors.

The Salida area is the crossroads of three interstate highways. The Arkansas River runs through town, and four national forests surround the community. Elevations of local mountains range from just under 7,000 to over 14,000 feet at the highest points, providing some of the world's most spectacular mountain scenery.

Salida is situated within Chaffee County on the eastern slope of the Rockies in central Colorado, bordered on the west by the Sawatch Range and the 14,000-foot Continental Divide.

Salida features one of the nation's largest National Historic Districts. The area is a rockhounder's paradise, offering garnet, sapphires, aquamarine, turquoise and even Indian arrowheads. The Salida Hot Springs Swimming Pool and Baths feature waters piped in from Poncha Hot Springs, just 5 miles southwest.
