The Barney House in Farmington was built in 1839 by John Treadwell, who became a major supporter of the Amistad Africans. It is a stately 19th century manor on 4 acres, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is owned and operated by the University of Connecticut Foundation as a conference center.
