Located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House has been the home of every President except George Washington. James Hoban's design was chosen for the presidential mansion in 1792. The 1948-52 renovation preserved the exterior walls and rebuilt the interior. The West Wing, where the President's Oval Office is, was constructed in 1902.
Since September 11, 2001, tours have been discontinued. However, beginning in April 2003 tours for certain groups of at least 10 were been scheduled through congressional leaders.
