Gloucester is a city in southwest England, the capital of Gloucestershire. It is situated on the River Severn 114 miles west of London. It was originally a Roman camp and fragments of the Roman walls remain.
A church which was begun in 1089 and dedicated in 1100 forms part of the present cathedral. The tomb of Edward II is in the cathedral.
