This three-acre National Historic Site (originally called 'Rock Gate Park'), features an amazing natural coral castle created by Latvian Ed Leedskalnin using nothing but homemade tools that he created from cast-off parts; over the 20 years that it took to complete the castle, not one witness has been found that saw construction in progress...Leedskalnin's building methods remain a mystery to this day.
Begun in 1920, the amazing structure, comprised of over 1,100 tons of coral rock, features a 9-ton gate and one-of-a-kind sundial. The story of the castle, seen by millions on television, is related for visitors via 30-minute state-of-the-art audiotours and continuous 45-minute guided tours. Open daily, located 25 miles south of Miami on US Hwy 1.
