Calais is situated just to the northwest of the intersection of Auto Routes A16 and A26, at the juncture of Route National N43, which runs along the coast and passes through the town, and D940. It is 130 miles west of Brussels, 181 miles NNW of Paris, 172 miles NW of Reims and 134 miles NNE of Rouen. 36 km SE of the English coast, it is a busy cross-Channel port opposite Dover, England. Up to 60 car ferry and catamaran services daily from Dover via Hoverspeed (www.hoverspeed.co.uk), a 45-minute journey, or 75 to 90 minutes via the superferries run by P&O Stena Line (www.posl.com) and SeaFrance (www.seafrance.co.uk). To the SW of Calais the Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Griz Nez and the bay of Wissant are quite beautiful.
