Located on the SE side of the town, the 17th-century country house where the Romantic philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau stayed from 1736 to 1742 with his mistress Madame de Warens is now a museum rich in literary associations. It is surrounded by a French-styled garden with a large collection of herbs, vegetables and fruit trees commonly used in the 18th century.
