Built on the left bank of the Eure River, Chartres is located 60 miles SW of Paris (less than an hour by train from Gare Montparnasse) and 47 miles NW of Orleans. Chartres boasts what many consider to be the finest example of Gothic architecture in Europe - the Cathedrale Notre-Dame. However its churches and half-timbered houses lining cobbled streets should not be overlooked.
