Search Chinon

Chinon is located on the banks of the Vienne River, near its confluence with the Loire, 176 miles SW of Paris and 30 miles SW of Tours. The town is famous as the setting of the first meeting between the dauphin (Charles VII) and Joan of Arc, which took place in 1429 in the Chateau de Chinon. It was here that the Maid of Orleans persuaded Charles to give her an army in order to drive the English out of France. Today, Chinon is famous for its quaint medieval streets and its red wines.
