Located on the left bank of the Bleone River, a tributary of the Durance, 134 km NW of Cannes along the scenic Route Napoleon, the spa town of Digne-les-Bains is known throughout France for its beautiful lavender, hosting an annual lavender festival each August. To the north and east of the town, the 150,000-hectare Reserve Naturelle Geologique de Haute Provence, the largest geological reserve in Europe, features fossils dating back 300 million years. Tours can be arranged at the tourist office and the Centre de Geologie offers information on the area.
