Located 25 km SW of Besancon, Ornans has taken advantage of the River Loue that runs through the town, featuring rows of bridges and houses jutting out over the water. The town is famous as the birthplace of the great Realist painter Gustave Courbet, whose former home is now the Courbet Museum located at place Robert Fernier.
