Located 342 miles W of Paris (4-5 hours by TGV train) and 127 miles NW of Rennes at the confluence of the Odet and Steir rivers, the town of Quimper is famous for the faience (hand-painted pottery) it has been producing since the late 17th century. The town s oldest factory, Faienceries HB-Henriot (www.hb-henriot.com, French only), is located in southwest Quimper and is open to visitors from March to October. The pedestrianized area of Vieux Quimper, located west of the town s cathedral, is lined with shops and half-timbered houses.
