Factor's Walk, a row of narrow buldings along the river bluff on Bay Street, acquired its name in the 19th century when it was the meeting place for factors; sales agents and commission merchants such as cotton merchants. It was the center of commercial activities. A network of iron and concrete bridgeways connect the buildings to the bluff. The cobblestone streets were made from the ballast of ships from Europe.
