The history of Grady General Hospital began around 1900 when the late Dr. W.A. Walker built several rooms onto his office for the care of his patients.
In 1947, the Grady County Hospital Authority was created to operate the Cairo Hospital. In 1958, a 31-bed replacement hospital was built at the present location and named Grady General Hospital. In 1977, the hospital was renovated and expanded with a 29-bed patient wing and a four-bed intensive care unit. Grady General Hospital has been affiliated with John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital since 1985.
