56-565 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku - Oahu Hawaii 96731
This old sugar mill shut down in 1971 and has re-opened as a tourist attraction. Tourists can take a free self-guided tour from 9am to 5pm and see the steam engines, gears and other equipment from the old Kahuku Sugar Mill.
After the cane is cut, the pieces are run through rollers that squeeze out the juice that is refined into brown sugar and then either molasses or white sugar. The dried stalks, called bagasse, are often used to power the steam engines.
There is also a gift shop and Mexican restaurant on the premises. Crafts are demonstrated and sold also.
