There are sweeping views of Maui Island and the outer islands in clear weather. Wild pig and bird hunting is permitted in season with a license. Off road vehicles are recommended to reach the site.

There are extensive hiking trails, camping areas and one cabin with no showers. It is located at 6,200 foot elevation, 9.7 miles from Kula in a forest of eucalyptus, redwood, cypress and sugi pines, species imported from around the world.

Camping permits are required from the Division of State Parks, Box 1049 Wailuku, HI 96793. The cabin is a spacious three bedroom unit with bunk beds that can sleep ten. Essentials are provided for rustic camping.
