Keosauqua is located on the shores of the Des Moines River, southeast of Ottumwa on Hwy 1, and is part of the 'Villages of Van Buren' area. These quiet and quaint villages are former riverboat ports, now home to many resident artists and craftspeople, including potters and blacksmiths. The area includes many parks, lakes and country roads that visitors will enjoy exploring; the Shimek State Forest and Lacey-Keosauqua State Park are nearby.
