Bear Lake is a natural fresh water lake formed from a portion of former Lake Bonneville. The lake at its peak capacity has approximately 58,000 surface acres at an elevation of 5,964 feet. Surface acres fluctuate because the lake is used as a storage for downstream water users in irrigation and hydroelectric power.

Bear Lake is 7.5 miles wide and 20 miles long. The deepest part of the lake is 213-feet with an average depth of 104-feet. It is located on the border of Idaho & Utah with 33,000 surface acres in the Gem state.

Bear Lake has become one of the prime recreational areas of the Intermountain west, offering fishing, boating, water skiing, scuba diving and other aquatic activities. During the fur trading days of the early 1800's, Bear Lake was the site of two fur trader rendezvous and has a rich historical heritage.
