Search Visit Illinois

The Embarras River is located in southeastern Illinois and drains nearly 2,500 square miles before emptying into the Wabash River southeast of Lawrenceville. A pretty, little river valley, it has spawned Fox Ridge State Park, Sam Parr State Park and Walnut Point State Park not to mention Chauncey Marsh, the Jasper County Prairie Chicken Sanctuary, and the Upper Embarras Woods Nature Preserve.

The river rises in Clark County and flows through Crawford County, Jasper County, Richland County and finally Lawrence County.
